The devotion comes from the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, an event commemorated on February 2. According to Jewish tradition, a mother underwent ritual purification 40 days after childbirth. Mary and Joseph, fulfilling this law, presented the infant Jesus in the Temple, where Simeon recognized Him as the “Light for revelation to the Gentiles” (Luke 2:32).
